Looking for something more exciting than another ugly Christmas sweater party? Say hello to the holiday hair hat—the festive, Instagram-worthy trend that'll make you the star of any holiday gathering!
The best part? You can create this eye-catching look in just 30 minutes using Dollar Tree supplies that cost less than $15.

What is a Holiday Hair Hat?
A holiday hair hat is a decorative Christmas tree accessory that you wear on your head! This viral party trend originated from vintage Christmas photos and has been modernized by creative party-goers looking for something fresh and fun.
At HERplace Foundation, we're always looking for creative ways to celebrate. When Angelique of Gaggle Society Photo Booth introduced us to this theme, we knew we had to share it! Huge credit to Cynthia of @hotpinkpineapples and Sarah of @samswhurld, who perfected this DIY technique and were inspired by this
vintage Christmas photo.

What You'll Need (Under $15!)
Most supplies come from Dollar Tree:
Essential Supplies:
Christmas tree frame (Dollar Tree, $1.25)
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Scissors
10-15 bobby pins
Tree topper (star, bow, or angel)
Choose Your Style:
Option 1: Simple & Classic
Keep the garland that comes with the tree
Small ornaments
Battery-operated mini lights (optional)
Option 2: Custom Look
Hair clip-in extensions
Marley braid hair
Festive ribbons
Additional garland

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prep Your Tree Frame
Decide if you're keeping the original garland or removing it for a custom look. To remove, simply unwrap or cut the ties.
Step 2: Create Your Base
Keeping the garland? Fluff it out and hot glue any loose sections.
Going custom? Wrap your hair extensions, marley braids, or ribbon around the frame in a spiral. Hot glue every 2-3 inches as you go. Trim excess with scissors.
Pro Tip: Match your natural hair color for a seamless look, or go bold with festive colors!
Step 3: Add Decorations
Now for the fun part! Hot glue ornaments, lights, and decorations to your tree. Start with larger items and fill in with smaller ones. Keep it balanced so it's comfortable to wear.
Decoration Ideas:
Mini ornament balls
Jingle bells
Small gift boxes
Snowflakes
Fairy lights
Candy canes
Pinecones
Step 4: Attach Your Tree Topper
Hot glue your topper to the top point of the frame. Make sure it's centered and lightweight so your hat doesn't tip!
Step 5: Add Bobby Pins
Hot glue 4-6 bobby pins to the inside bottom edge of the frame, pointing downward. Let dry completely (10 minutes). These will slide into your hair to secure the hat.
Step 6: Final Check
Trim any glue strings, adjust ornaments, and do a mirror check from all angles. You're ready to party!
How to Wear It
Hair Styling:
Low ponytail or bun (great for any hair length)
Side-swept waves
Natural texture with volume spray
Slicked back for short hair
Outfit Pairing: Keep your outfit simple so the hat shines!
Try:
White button-down or turtleneck with jeans (like our photo!)
Solid-colored sweater in festive colors
Little black dress
Cozy oversized knit
